2 Way Street – Executive Interview Questions to Expect, and Ask

executive interview questions

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you knew exactly what executive interview questions a hiring manager would be asking you in your next job interview?   While we unfortunately can’t read minds, we’ll give you the next best thing: a list of the most commonly asked interview questions asked to executives!

It’s a good idea to spend some time thinking about the following areas: Leadership Experience, Communication Skills, Results Focus, Strategic Thinking, Personal Ideas.

  • Tell me about yourself. (Or similarly) Walk me through your executive CV.
  • Tell me about an initiative that you conceived and were responsible for executing. What challenges did you expect and what challenges did you actually encounter? How did you overcome them?
  • Tell me how you have created a shared purpose among people who initially differed in opinions or objectives.
  • Tell me about the results you have achieved at your last two positions. How did you achieve them? What was the effect to the business?
  • Give me an example of how you understand our business. Where do you think the growth areas are? Where do you think we can do better with customer experience?
  • When was the last time you took a risk? What did you learn from it?
  • Give me an example of when you pushed back, made some noise, offered constructive dissent.
  • Tell me about a time in which you brought productive change to a company. How did you implement this change?
  • In your previous roles, explain how you’ve embedded the company’s goals and vision into your employees.
  • What constructive criticism have you received in the past that surprised you the most?
  • How successful have you been so far?
  • What are your limitations?
  • What is your management style?
  • What important trends do you see coming in our industry?

Your future executive  interview is not just an opportunity for a hiring manager to grill you with executive level interview questions. It’s your big opportunity to sass out whether the job and the company are the right fit for you. That’s why it’s crucial to go in with some neat questions:

  • What does a typical day look like?
  • What are the most immediate projects that need to be addressed?
  • Can you show me examples of executive projects I’d be working on?
  • What are the biggest challenges that someone in this position would face?
  • What sort of budget would I be working with?
  • Where do you see this company in the next few years?
  • What can you tell me about your new products or plans for growth?
  • What are the current goals that the company is focused on, and how does this team work to support hitting those goals?
  • What is the company and team culture like?
  • How would you describe the work environment (or culture) here—is the work typically collaborative or more independent?

Being great at executive interviews in a form of art that stems from your professional experience, charisma, personality and…..preparation.

Paint a great picture for your future employers!
